It’s the big week! Episode 100 of the Deep Lying Podcast will be gracing your ears this Friday. Some of the details for it have been revealed on Twitter, so if for some reason you aren’t already following the DLP account on there, fix that mistake right now!
Before that though, here’s your community round-up from episode 99. It was hosted by Ed, and with George off gallivanting in Scotland, he was joined by two Scotsmen as replacements, Keepers and FMSamo (hey, it’s me, hiya!).
Another week, another community round-up for you all to immediately stop what you’re doing and immerse yourself into a boatload of FM flavoured content.
Scott Salter and Will Sharp from In Bed With Maradona appeared on the pod this week, and if you haven’t given it a listen yet, I’d encourage you to do so. Bit of an early one for the exclusive to this post plug of some community content, but if you haven’t been reading Will’s FM17 save with Sheffield Wednesday on the site, I’d encourage you to do that too!
Episode 97 of the pod had a retro feel to it. Retro in that it was just George, Ed and you down your headphones listening in. Like the good old days had returned. Yes, we all love it when a guest is on. But how good was it to just listen to the guys have a good old natter about all things FM. Give it a listen if you haven’t already.

Episode 96, eh? Hands up who thought the guys wouldn’t even get to episode 10 way back when the podcast started, never mind episode 100! But boy we’re glad they have.
The latest episode saw George and Ed take in the BetBright FM17 Cup final in London. Yes, George and Ed were both in the same room! It includes chats with Iain Macintosh, Alex Stewart, and the undisputed champions of the whole tournament, who take home a prize of £5,000! Episode 95 of the Deep Lying Podcast has been and gone, and if you haven’t listened yet, what are you waiting for? It featured Greg Johnson from Squawka who was on hand to answer some of your and George’s questions, with Ed absent due to being in a minor traffic accident (#PrayforEd #he’sfine #youdon’tneedtopray).

It’s me! I’m back with another community section round-up from episode 94 of the podcast. This week’s pod was a tactics special with FM Analysis and LPQR appearing as guests alongside George and Ed (making a return after a few weeks). They answered some of your questions you’d submitted and had a good old natter about narrow formations in particular. Always a hot topic. Episode 93 was a bit of a corker in my opinion! Ali Maxwell of Not The Top 20 podcast was on, and the pod had a very EFL flavour, naturally. Alongside the usual save updates, George asked Ali to give his recommendations of players to look out for across the 3 divisions, and Ali also gave us some recommendations of interesting clubs we might fancy doing a save with across the EFL. The community section round-up is back! Last week’s edition went down well enough that George and Ed haven’t kicked me off the site. Hopefully well enough too that you all spent your boring Monday at work catching up on the latest content from around the FM community. Who needs to be actually working, eh?!

I’m delighted to be making my debut on the Deep Lying Podcast site and I’m bringing you something big: the first ever round up of the podcast’s community section to hit a website.
I’ve been compiling the community section for the podcast, which has been running in conjunction with #FMSlack since the middle of January, and there’s been some brilliant content produced in that time across the blogging and YouTubing spectrum.
Before now, I’ve just been posting the round-up on Twitter once the pod has been released. Now that George and Ed are Patreoning however, we’ll be giving you the all important links to what you should be catching up on and who you should be following across the community every Monday from now on.
Let’s get into it.
The Deep Lying Podcast is about to turn two years old. Since we recorded our first episode way back in April 2015, we’ve managed to produce over 90 episodes crammed with FM chatter and some top guests from the FM Community and the wider football world.
But there’s so much more we want to do with the podcast. We want to record different types of podcasts – like phone ins, documentaries and other exclusive behind the scenes interviews – as well as have a bit more time to organise events or set up a Youtube channel.
That’s why we’ve decided – Ed and George together – to set up a Patreon. Now, I know what you’re thinking: an FM Patreon? We’ve seen those before. And you’re right, plenty of people have put them up before with varying levels of success.
But we think a Patreon is perfect for the Deep Lying Podcast for three reasons.
First, if we hit our targets, it allows us to keep the weekly podcast going completely free of adverts. This means that we don’t need to worry about finding money down the back of the sofa to pay our running costs or rely on a business to bail us out in the future.
Second, we think Patreon works really well for us because we can offer you what is essentially a subscription service. The three backer tiers that we’ve created will get you different perks and benefits, but the long and short of it is we will be providing at least an extra podcast, two newsletters and a games night every month when we hit target. By doing so, we hope you’ll feel as if backing us is worth it for you personally.
Third, and most importantly, a Patreon means the show is paid for by our fans rather than anyone else. This means we can double down on supporting the community in the show and start supporting people like FM Samo – who helps keep the community ticking over – and FM Pressure – who helps us to produce the podcast. Helping the broader FM Community is a big part of why we do the show and we’d love it if our Patreon could share the love around too.
